FLA Orthopedics Introduces the HealWell® Soft Ease™ Heel Suspender

FLA Orthopedics (Miramar, Fla), a manufacturer of orthopedic, sports medicine, and bracing products, introduces the HealWell® Soft Ease™ Multi-AFO/Heel Suspender that positions the foot with the heel completely suspended, eliminating pressure and preventing ulcers. The shape allows the heel to float in an air cavity and promotes air circulation around the foot, aiding in the treatment and healing of existing ulcers. The plastic shell base correctly positions the foot for treatment of foot drop and non-fixed ankle/foot contractures. It also maintains alignment of the foot with the lower leg, minimizing inversion and eversion of the foot.

The HealWell Soft Ease is an economical, effective solution for heel ulcer prevention in any at-risk patient. The replaceable/disposable cover helps maintain a hygienic environment, which is critical in ulcer management.
HealWell Soft Ease features and benefits include the following:
• A plastic shell base that maintains a neutral foot position
• Suspension of the heel, protecting it from pressure and friction
• A low-bulk design that allows for air circulation to prevent heel ulcers and improve healing of existing heel ulcers
• Soft material that wicks moisture away to keep skin dry and reduces friction and shear
• An integrated, padded toe post that protects the toes from contact with bed linens to prevent skin breakdown
• Fully adjustable straps that accommodate edema (swelling) changes
• Extra padding at the sensitive Achilles area
• A removable/washable 1-piece cover and mesh laundry bag
• Availability of replacement covers to maintain a fresh, hygienic product
• Right or left foot fit.

Next Generation Silver Technology Offers Dramatic Improvements in Treating Wounds and Burns

Technological advancements in the use of silver for fighting infections has resulted in next-generation medical products that offer breakthroughs in treating wounds and burns, according to national wound care technology expert, Bruce L. Gibbins, PhD. Dr. Gibbons presented his latest findings at the annual John A. Boswick, MD Burn and Wound Healing Symposium held at the Maui Prince Hotel in Hawaii.
According to Gibbins, founder of AcryMed (Portland, Ore), a medical device company specializing in wound care and infection control technology, a significant breakthrough in these products is their ability to sustain the infection-fighting properties of silver through time-release formulas. Products like AcryMed’s SilvaSorb Gel remain effective in fighting bacteria for many days rather than hours. As a result, dressings require significantly less frequent changing and reapplication. Wounds and burns heal faster, and the incidences of infection are greatly reduced with an overall increase in patient comfort.
