SilverDerm7 Nylon Wound Dressing Does Not Shed Silver Material

DermaRite Industries (Paterson, NJ) has added SilverDerm7 to the company’s line of wound care dressings.
The dressing surface is 99.9% pure metallic silver, autocatalytic plated to pure nylon, and designed to not shed the silver material. The dressing passively delivers the silver ion in the presence of moisture where, in turn, the ion disassociates itself from the metallic surface and attaches to the fluid. The dressing will never stain or tattoo the skin, because the metallic surface is not deposited into the tissue.
The uniformly plated metallic silver surface is highly conductive. The dressing, when overlapping 2 cm of periwound skin, will re-establish near normal transepithelial potential (TEP) in the wound by acting as a jumper cable. This action creates an analgesic effect and enhances wound healing.
The dressing easily conforms to hard-to-dress areas and is comfortable for the patient. The dressing can be rinsed to remove excess exudate and then reapplied for up to 7 days.

Web-Based Educational Resource “MedEdOnline” Launched

MedEdOnline was launched during the annual conference of the Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurses Society (WOCN) held in Las Vegas June 12–16, 2005. MedEdOnline is a web-based informational and educational resource. The site focuses on those who practice, support, and represent the wound care, hyperbaric medicine, diving medicine, and wilderness medicine disciplines.
An international team of experts report on issues affecting their regions. A second group of correspondents update the readers with newsworthy events from their key organizations. Educational credits are available via streaming videos of conferences and meetings. Important technical, safety, and compliance issues are addressed. For those with unique questions, an “Ask the Expert” option can be accessed for further discussion.
