Coloplast Corp Introduces InterDry™ Ag Textile with Silver Complex

Coloplast Corp (Atlanta, Ga) introduces InterDry™ Ag Textile with Silver Complex. The dressing is specially designed to manage moisture, odor, and inflammation in skin folds and other skin-to-skin contact areas. This is the first product designed for skin fold management.
Clinical case studies revealed that after 5 days of use, 100% of the patients showed improvement in reducing the multiple symptoms associated with intertrigo, maceration, denudement, itching, erythema, satellite lesions, and inflammation.
The dressing is a knitted, 100% polyester textile impregnated with a silver complex that manages the effects of moisture in skin folds and body contours. This product is formulated with a proprietary polyurethane coating that is designed to absorb, wick, and translocate moisture away from the body, keeping skin folds dry. The textile also provides a smooth and lubricious contact surface to reduce friction and add protection against skin tears and costly pressure ulcers. The silver formulation in the product controls the odor associated with moisture between skin folds.

Medela Vario 18 Aspirator Approved for Reimbursement

Medela Medical Technology (McHenry, Ill) announces that the CMS has approved their negative pressure wound healing system for reimbursement under HCPCS codes E2402, A7000, and A6550. The Medela system first applies sub-atmospheric pressure to the wound site to remove infectious materials while drawing the outer edges of the wound together.
The system promotes both healing and aid in the development of granulation tissue for wounds that are difficult to heal, such as Stage III and IV pressure ulcers, neuropathic and venous insufficiency ulcers, dehisced wounds, partial-thickness burns, skin flaps, and grafts.
The negative pressure wound therapy system consists of the Medela Vario 18 AC/DC c/i aspirator and a wound dressing kit that contains individual components manufactured for Medela. This system can be used in hospitals and long-term or home care settings.

FDA Approves 3M DuraPrep™ Surgical Solution

3M (St. Paul, Minn) announces that the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the New Drug Application (NDA) for the new DuraPrep™ Surgical Solution. DuraPrep Surgical Solution has been available and used in more than 20 million preoperative patient skin preparation procedures since 1988.
In 1994, the FDA published the Tentative Final Monograph for Healthcare Antiseptic Drug Products by which it regulates health care antiseptic solutions. In the monograph, the FDA limited the allowable form of iodophor used in patient preoperative skin preparations to povidone iodine. After discussions with the FDA about the iodine acrylate copolymer in DuraPrep Surgical Solution, 3M decided to file an NDA, seeking formal approval from the FDA for this compound.
Created to enhance drape adhesion, DuraPrep Surgical Solution optimizes the persistent effects of iodine and resists wash-off. The product’s unique applicator design provides ease of use and minimizes risk of contamination during the prepping procedure. DuraPrep Surgical Solution also keeps bacterial counts low for up to 24 hours and improves drape adhesion. This is essential in reducing the risk of infection during high-risk surgeries, such as cardiac, orthopedic, and neurosurgery.
