Medline Launches SilvaSorb™ Line of Antimicrobial Silver Wound Dressings for Chronic Wounds
Medline Industries, Inc., is launching the first line of antimicrobial silver wound dressings that combines sustained release antimicrobial silver with highly effective moisture management materials for helping heal chronic wounds and reducing infection. Called SilvaSorb™, this new line is a major addition to Medline’s family of controlled-release silver wound care products, including Arglaes®.
SilvaSorb is a sterile, single-use wound dressing for use in moist wound management. It combines patented MicroLattice™ technology with the unique, stabilized sustained release silver technology for an effective dressing for use up to seven days. The MicroLattice synthetic matrix helps to maintain an optimal environment for healing by managing the moisture level in the wound. MicroLattice either donates moisture if required or absorbs up to five times its weight in excess wound exudate. It also controls the release of ionic silver when triggered by contact with moisture.
As an effective barrier to a broad spectrum of microorganisms, SilvaSorb may help reduce infection by inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus, including MRSA, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Candida albicans, VRE, and other clinically significant microorganisms.
SilvaSorb comes in a variety of formats for use in the management of many wound types, such as pressure ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, leg ulcers, skin tears, first- and second-degree burns, grafted wounds and donor sites, surgical wounds, and lacerations and abrasions.

Hartmann-Conco’s New Compression Stocking for Venous Leg Ulcers is Making Treatment Easier
Hartmann-Conco Inc. has introduced a new, two-piece compression stocking system that makes treatment of venous leg ulcers easier and more effective for physicians and patients. TheraPress DUO and TheraPress DUO Lite are two-piece stocking systems that divide the pressure required at the narrow part of the ankle into two separate pieces—each with half of the required compression.
TheraPress DUO allows patients greater mobility and flexibility in daily living. Because the two-piece stocking is easy to apply and remove, patients can shower or bathe daily. Because it is not bulky, they can wear normal footwear while wearing the stocking.
Utilization involves applying the calf piece of the TheraPress DUO, then the foot piece, and overlapping the two sections of each piece over the narrow ankle. The calf and foot pieces are applied separately. Since the sections that will eventually overlap are knitted with only one half the total compression, each piece is easy to apply and remove. Once applied and overlapped, the two pieces produce the appropriate levels of compression at the ankle.
TheraPress DUO is available in two compression levels—TheraPress DUO and TheraPress DUO Lite. TheraPress DUO is a class 2 compression system that produces approximately 30mmHg at the ankle and is indicated for venous leg ulcer patients with no arterial insufficiency. TheraPress DUO Lite is a class 1 compression system and produces approximately 20mmHg at the ankle and is indicated for ven-ous leg ulcer patients with a slight degree of arterial insufficiency.
Both TheraPress DUO and TheraPress DUO Lite are available in eight sizes and are designed to fit ankle circumferences as small as 19cm up to 31cm and calf circumferences ranging from 30cm to 50cm.
