Covidien Launches Web-Based Patient and Caregiver Education Resource

Covidien (Mansfield, MA) has launched a new website to provide educational support to healthcare providers and home health caregivers. The site, www.patientcare-edu.com, features educational information on treating the most common chronic care conditions in acute, non-acute, or home care settings. Caregivers can access the information to better understand, or refresh their knowledge of, particular underlying conditions. A unique feature of the site is that the educational material can be accessed by clinical condition or by product group.

The site is intended to improve a patient’s quality of life by showing caregivers how to properly treat or prevent the underlying complications of chronic conditions, such as immobility, incontinence, pressure ulcers, healthcare-associated infections, malnutrition, and dehydration.

The site is geared toward nurses, CNAs, discharge planners, home health agency staff, and patients’ loved ones. In addition to providing educational material on protocols for treatment, relevant research studies on featured conditions, and videos on product usage, the site offers video demonstrations that caregivers can view. Information sheets may be downloaded for caregivers, patients, and families.

The site also provides information about the company’s products that can aid in the treatment or prevention of the highlighted conditions. In addition, this new site supplies links to the product websites where more specific product information is available.

Healthcare providers and home health caregivers can also use the educational programs on the site to receive continuing education credit by reading articles, and completing post-activity tests and evaluation forms.

The site offers the information and the continuing education program free of charge. Users do not need to register or provide any personal information to access educational materials.

The website will be updated regularly with new educational materials and resources. Additional clinical conditions also may be included depending on feedback received from customers and site visitors.
