ConvaTec Acquires Exclusive Rights for NPWT System
ConvaTec (Skillman, NJ) recently signed a long-term global exclusive license agreement with Boehringer Technologies (Ridgefield, Conn) to market and distribute Boehringer’s Engenex® Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT) System incorporating Bio-Dome™ Interface Technology.
Boehringer’s NPWT System was first launched in 2007 and is both a technology and engineering solution that utilizes the application of negative pressure to a wound to promote healing by creating controlled tissue strain and removing excess fluid, including wound exudate. Every aspect of the system from the wound interface to the user interface has been designed to attain optimal clinical and economic outcomes as well as simplified application and monitoring system for patient care. Under the terms of the development and license agreement, ConvaTec receives exclusive global marketing and distribution rights for the system. In addition, Boehringer Wound Systems will provide ongoing manufacturing support for many components of the system and there will be ongoing co-development between both companies for future enhancements to this and other technologies.

Medical Device Manufacturer Acquires maker of Adult Incontinence Management Products
Hartmann-Conco Inc (Rock Hill, SC), US division of global manufacturer Paul Hartmann AG recently acquired Whitestone Corp (Bloomington, Ind). Hartmann-Conco Inc leverages nearly 2 centuries of expertise and global resources to design, develop, and distribute quality bandages and wound management products.
Whitestone Corp focuses on disposable adult incontinence management products. The company markets several brands including Dignity® and UltraShield® Plus. The newly combined company will offer incontinence management products in addition to the current US portfolio of compression and fixation bandages, traditional wound management and advanced wound management products.

Wound Care Division of HMP Communications Introduces Online Column for Executives
The Wound Care Division of HMP Communications (Malvern, Pa) will introduce a new online column to its WOUNDS and Ostomy Wound Management websites. “Executive Spotlight,” will give executive-level wound, ostomy, and incontinence business professionals an online presence to enhance knowledge of their companies and products.
Developed by Ostomy Wound Management editors, Barbara Zeiger and Chimere G. Holmes, the column will focus on the talented men and women behind today’s expanding wound care market. The online feature offers an up-close and personal look inside the functional and business parameters of wound care. Topics such as marketing, product launches, medical regulations, and patient surveys will be covered on a bimonthly basis.
Professionals interested in nominating fellow executives who are perpetuating the evolution of wound care or who have groundbreaking industry news are encouraged to contribute. The debut premieres January 2009 and goes one-on-one with Kevin Nickels, CEO of Celleration Inc.
