Systagenix Wound Management Introduces New Silvercel® Non-Adherent Dressing
Systagenix Wound Management (Quincy, MA) recently unveiled Silvercel® Non-Adherent dressing, a new antimicrobial silver dressing with a nonadherent layer that controls infection and minimizes trauma with each dressing change. With some dressing changes, removal can cause trauma to the wound bed causing severe discomfort to the patient. Additional problems reported by clinicians are dressing fibers or residue left in the wound following dressing change that can lead to damaged newly formed tissue and increased pain for the patient. The new dressing can be easily removed in one piece without adhering to the wound bed and is comprised of a highly absorbent inner layer of silver alginate, which has been shown to release silver ions into wound fluid for nearly 7 days in vitro. The dressing is 83% less adherent than other silver dressings available and may help reduce infection in moderate to heavily exuding wounds and partial and full-thickness wounds. These wounds include pressure ulcers, venous ulcers, diabetic ulcers, donor sites, and traumatic and surgical wounds. Suitable for infected, chronic, and acute wounds, the dressing was specifically designed to promote clean and healed wounds.
