Abstract: This randomized study was designed to establish the efficacy of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) gel and topical estradiol alone, or in combination, on healing of full-thickness wounds created on the trunk of rabbits. Fifteen New Zealand white female rabbits and 60 wounds were studied. Four 2.25-cm² full-thickness wounds were created using a template and treatments including a sterile saline solution that were assigned randomly to the wounds.

Abstract: Background. Erythropoietin (Epo) and its cognate receptor (EpoR) have been recently identified in nonhematopoietic cells. Epo structural variants, which possess tissue protective effects while exhibiting no effect on erythropoiesis, appear to require a second distinct receptor component, the common βreceptor (βcR) of IL-3, IL-5, and GM-CSF for ligand signal transduction. The goal of this work was to determine the temporal and spatial presence of Epo, EpoR, and βcR in porcine wound fluid and granulation tissue. Methods.

Thirty-four patients (82.9%) were classified as surgical risk class I and 7 patients (17.1%) were classified as class II.

This prospective, analytical study was conducted at the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS) Burn Unit (Jamshoro, Pakistan) from June 2007 to May 2008. Methods. Eighty adult patients presenting with burn injuries of varying etiology with body surface area (BSA) of ≥ 20% were enrolled in the study.

  • Issue:
    7 July 2009

Abstract: The use of negative pressure for wound healing has been based on a set of parameters and devices that until recently were combined into a single paradigm. Despite historical and more recent evidence providing viable alternative considerations, it is only recently that this paradigm and its tenets have come into question. As the understanding of the limits of the current paradigm and specific instances of its benefits and drawbacks are identified, shifts in the paradigm must take place if the therapy is to evolve, develop, and continue to be efficacious.

    Dear Readers,

Do you remember the old game show “To Tell The Truth”? Contestants would tell a story to a panel, and the panel then had to decide if the story was true or not. When we are given information about products and therapies we use, are we being told the truth or does it seem like another episode of that television show?
